So … the decision has finally been made and The Mitre Players’ Minack 2018 production will be ….. Me and My Girl …… believe it or not, it will be the first time this classic British musical has ever been presented at Cornwall's world famous open-air theatre.

In its original form the musical by Noel Gay, with an original book and lyrics by Douglas Furber and L. Arthur Rose had it’s first successful West End run in 1937. (80 years ago!) Following a book revision by Stephen Fry and Mike Ockrent and the addition of a few more classic songs from the original composer Me & My Girl returned to the West End in 1984 to enjoy a successful 8 year run.

It's set in the 1930s and tells the story of the cockney sparrow Bill Snibson, who learns he's actually the fourteenth heir of the Earl of Hareford and finds himself torn between duty and love. He faces a heart wrenching decision – change and fit in with his new aristocratic family or say good-bye forever to his sweetheart Sally Smith the fishmonger’s assistant.

It includes such timeless classics as “The Sun Has Got His Hat On”, “Leaning On A Lamppost”,” Once You Loose Your Heart “and, of course “The Lambeth Walk”

A good company show, with involvement for all whether young, old, dancer, mover or  non-mover. Good company numbers as well as a good range of parts ….. Lovely Show!

We are pleased that we have been given permission to perform the show in Cornwall and we will be the only "London based" society allowed to perform to show for some time as the rights have been restricted to performances over 100 miles from London for some time.c romp from the thirties follows the fortunes of Bill Snibson, a proud Cockney who is amazed to learn that he’s actually the fourteenth Earl of Hareford. But if he wants to claim his title, it looks as if he will have to shed his old life – and love.

With well-loved classic songs including The Lambeth Walk and Leaning on a Lamp Post, Me and My Girl was brilliantly updated by Stephen Fry in 1986 for a run that won a hatful of Olivier, Drama Desk and Tony Awa
